Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Manager, the Marketing and Public Relations Specialist oversees all aspects of marketing, graphic design, and the management of Meridian Township's social media pages. The Specialist also supports the Communications Manager with emergency and crisis communications, as well as website and content management. The Specialist coordinates digital and print marketing campaigns, creates E-newsletters, and manages social media, while demonstrating excellent customer service with those we serve, both internally and out in the community. The Specialist collaborates closely, and communicates effectively and efficiently with all of our departments in Meridian Township and external stakeholders.

Duties:

• Collaborate with the Communications Manager to develop marketing strategies and create marketing and branding materials, ensuring adherence to the Township's brand standards.
• Create and implement a calendar to manage social media content and plan specific, timely social media marketing campaigns.
• Assist the Communications Manager with the daily maintenance, content creation, and management of the Township website.
• Manage the print production of communication materials, including the creation of the annual Prime Meridian Magazine, flyers, and event signage.
• Lead the process for cross-promoting content across multiple platforms, including third-party websites and digital advertising.
• Monitor and respond to feedback from various social sites; assist Communications Manager with directing public and media inquiries to appropriate staff members.
• Track the performance of Meridian Township's social media, e-newsletters, and media relations to inform marketing strategies.
• Assist the Communications Manager and the Multimedia Production and Operations Specialist in training interns who participate in the internship program.
• Create monthly E-newsletters that are sent externally to over 9,000 contacts. Maintains email lists for Meridian Township marketing distribution, including media contacts.
• Attend Township events and networking opportunities to raise awareness about the Township and establish connections with the community.
• Performs related work as required.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience working in communications, marketing, social media, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong understanding of the principles of marketing, marketing techniques, and ability to develop and execute marketing plans.
  • Experience with website maintenance, social media strategy, and management experience across multiple social media platforms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of creative design software applications such as Adobe and Canva.
  • Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines while working independently or with the team.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, elected officials, the media, community groups, professional contacts, and the public.
  • Proven skill in responding to public inquiries and internal requests with a high degree of diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and competing deadlines.
  • Must be able to assist with emergency communications during or outside of regular business hours as needed.

The employee may occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet but can be loud in the field at times.
